How Mom Water Is Redefining the Alcohol Market... (plus some big news coming from the FDA!)
The husband-and-wife founders behind the viral vodka water share how a poolside experiment turned into a multimillion-dollar beverage brand—and why midlife women everywhere are raising a (gold-topped) can to it.
Welcome back, Warriors!
This week on the The Suburban Warrior Podcast we’re shaking things up—literally. Meet Jill and Bryce Morrison, the married duo behind Mom Water, the zero-sugar, zero-carbonation, vodka-and-water brand that’s rewriting the rules of “clean drinking.” What started as Jill’s DIY poolside hack to escape sugary cocktails has become one of the fastest-growing female-founded beverage companies in the country—and it all began with a Sharpie, a cooler, and a few thirsty friends.

Back in 2018, Jill—an occupational therapist and mom of three—was on vacation when one too many syrupy resort drinks left her feeling miserable. So she did what every great innovator does: improvised. She grabbed a pitcher of passion fruit water from the bar, added a splash of vodka, and felt human again. Back home in Indiana, she began mixing her own “mom waters” for weekends at the pool, scribbling MOM on her bottles so her kids wouldn’t grab them. The name—and the idea—stuck. Soon, her husband Bryce, a seasoned marketer, joined forces, and together they turned her accidental creation into a purpose-driven brand built on simplicity, transparency, and joy.
Fast-forward to today: Mom Water (and its cheeky sibling, Dad Water) are sold nationwide, with flavors named after moms from every decade—Linda, Karen, Julie, Sandy—each one a wink to nostalgia and community. Their story is more than an entrepreneurial fairytale; it’s a reminder that midlife reinvention doesn’t always look like slowing down. Sometimes, it looks like creating something the world didn’t know it needed.

The Sip List: 6 Things We Learned from Jill & Bryce Morrison (and a bonus from Crissy)
1. Ignorance Was Bliss—and the Secret Ingredient
Neither Jill nor Bryce had beverage experience. That turned out to be an advantage. “If we’d known how hard it would be, we might never have tried,” Bryce admits. Their naivety kept them fearless—and fueled their creativity.
2. The Best Ideas Start at the Pool
Jill’s “aha moment” came mid-sunburn, mid-sugar crash, and mid-margarita regret. Her mission wasn’t to start a company—it was to find a drink that didn’t make her feel awful. Solving her own problem became a business that solved millions of others.
3. No Bubbles, No Bloat, No BS
Mom Water’s formula is as clean as it gets: vodka, water, fruit extract, and citric acid. No carbonation. No sweeteners. No hangover regret. It’s refreshment without the aftertaste—or the aftermath.
4. Burnout Can Be a Beginning
After two decades in healthcare, Jill realized she wasn’t just tired—she was unfulfilled. Quitting her secure job to build something new was terrifying, but it redefined success: “I didn’t realize how unhappy I was until I wasn’t anymore.”
5. Family Business, Not Family Drama
From siblings to sons, Mom Water runs on family energy—and radical trust. “People said, don’t mix family and business,” Bryce says. “But those are the people we love and believe in most. It works because we lead with culture, not ego.”
6. Moms Deserve Premium, Too
The matte cans, pastel colors, and gold tops aren’t accidents—they’re an aesthetic manifesto. “Women deserve products that look and feel as elevated as they are,” Jill says. “Even if it’s just what’s in the cooler.”
7. Fun Is Part of Wellness
As Crissy reminds us, midlife health isn’t all supplements and green smoothies. Joy counts, too. And sometimes joy looks like a cold Linda on a Saturday—shared with friends who get it.
If you loved this conversation, share it with your favorite midlife rebel—the one who’s rewriting her story, one bold sip at a time. Because wellness isn’t only about what we cut out—it’s about what we dare to create.

FDA Moves to Rethink Estrogen’s Fear Label: A Turning Point for Menopause Care!
The FDA appears ready to modernize its stance on menopause care, signaling support for removing or revising the “black box” warning on estrogen-containing therapies—particularly low-dose vaginal estrogen—long criticized as outdated and misleading. In July 2025, an FDA advisory panel convened by Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary strongly urged that the warning be eliminated for these treatments, arguing it deters women and prescribers from using therapies with growing evidence of safety and benefit.

For decades, the black box warning has cast a long shadow over hormone therapies, thanks in part to early interpretations of data from the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) trials. But new analyses and clinical experience suggest many risks have been overstated—especially for localized, low-dose estrogen that is minimally absorbed systemically. The warning, experts now say, is a relic of broader systemic HRT formulations, and it may do more harm than good by scaring patients off needed treatment.
What’s Fueling the Shift — and the Debate
Evidence evolving: Panels and clinician groups have pointed out that vaginal estrogen, when used at low doses, does not meaningfully increase circulating estrogen levels and carries little to no measurable risk of breast cancer, stroke, or clots.
Clinical practice suffers: Doctors report that many women decline therapy because the black box label feels frightening—some even throw prescriptions away.
Call from the top: Commissioner Makary, who convened the advisory panel, has framed the move as correcting “medical dogma” that has impeded care for millions of menopausal women.
Why This Matters for Women in Midlife
If the FDA follows through and lifts or revises the black box warning:
Greater access: Women suffering from genitourinary symptoms (dryness, painful intercourse, recurrent UTIs) may be more willing to try evidence-based estrogen treatments without fear.
More prescribing confidence: Clinicians may feel freer to recommend low-dose vaginal estrogen when needed, without the burden of a frightening label.
Innovation boost: Drugmakers might feel more incentive to develop and market safer, more targeted hormone therapies for menopause.
Better labeling: The move could signal a broader shift toward nuanced, evidence-based warnings that differentiate between systemic and local estrogen use.
Changing perceptions: Over time, this could help reduce the stigma and misinformation around hormone therapy in midlife—restoring balance to risk-benefit conversations.
The FDA hasn’t made a final decision yet, but the direction is clear: this could be a watershed moment in menopause care, aligning regulation more closely with modern science and giving women more agency in treatments for their bodies.
